WORLD REFUGEE DAY

June 20 is the celebration of World Refugee Day.
This day, various bodies concerned come out to lead groups or the refugees in marking the day.
Worldwide, there is United Nations Agency that is United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees abbreviated as UNHCR.
This year's theme is "Hope Away from Home"
Data by the Human Rights Watch shows that there are 32.5 million refugees. This means that these people ran from their home country or from their areas of living.
The plight of the refugees is worrying.
Days before June 20, in Mediterranean sea about 500 people were drowned, they are believed to be assylum seekers. Those refugees are said to be from Afghanistan and Pakistan and the majority were women, the incident resulted to 78 deaths according to the authorities.
Since 2014, at least 25716 have drowned in the Mediterranean sea, this therefore raise an important aspect in life, Security.
As these are all taking place, from drowning to death, from escaping hardships of civil wars, political tensions, natural disasters to facing hardships in their new homes away from home, where they think of getting better place but all is in vain, the number is set to rise.
The number will rise due to conflicts and wars and or projected natural disasters.
In Sudan, about a sad target of more than 500,000 people has fled from Sudan to neighbouring countries that include Kenya, Uganda among other countries, in Rwanda there are about 800,000 refugees mainly from Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo, in Kenya refugees tolls up to 600,000.
Kenya while marking the event, resolved to make the refugee camps Kakuma and Dadaab a permanent home for refugees and make it enabling environment for the refugees, this was said by Prime Cabinet Secretary on behalf of the Government. Perhaps this may sound good.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi urged world leaders to find solutions for refugees through peace, increased resettlement and embracing policies that help them to fully integrate in the communities that host them.
Today as we mark this of refugees, in our hearts humanity should prevail, the refugees are also human beings, they deserve that dignity and respect.
Theme of Hope Away from Home should be made lively. We should make this people be optimistic, they should feel motivated so that they do not regret.
In bid to make this happen and success, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN's Agency recommends five things to support the refugees these are: 1. Sharing coffee that is being compassionate to them, 2. Open you home to refugees, 3. Advocate for refugees education, 4. Urge political leaders to make peace, 5. Hire refugees. These are just suggestions by UNHCR, one can also do anything he or she deem fit to make the refugees feel at home wherever they are.
In deed , political instability, civil wars, terror attacks, natural disasters such as flood, famine and drought among others are the major causes of refugees. These people run not because they are happy but because they are forced to find a better place than that they are experiencing.
There is a call to solve these problems to avoid future inflations of refugees in to other countries.
It is still early to think that we have been defeated but instead should be working towards making every place a haven place for everyone. Even as we speak that of the total refugees that only 1% can resettle, this means that 99% cannot be resettled back to their homes, the remaining huge percentage are also wishing to be resettled.
I have hopes that in future refugees will no longer be suffering where they are but will be taken back to their homes and enjoy the peace, this can be done when all issues at the home ground of refugees settled.
Together let us stand with the refugees and show them hearty hand, compassionate heart.

SINGAPORE AND KENYA: DAY AND NIGHT

Kenya got its independence 1963 from the British colony, while Singapore got it two years in the month of August 9, 1965 from Malaysia after they had intense political differences which resulted to racial riots. Standing on the mirror line reflecting on the two countries between Kenya and Singapore, Kenya is extremely behind Singapore in terms of development.  Singapore hastily rose from third world country to first world country while Kenya still maintained the third world class.  Recently, Kenya's President Dr. William Ruto, is full of comparison statements: between Kenya and Singapore. Surprisingly, the phrase of boosting Kenya's world class has taken a beautiful twist where every politician is dreaming of Kenya to be futuristically the same level as Singapore. Pausing a bit, what's a dream? pondering on this; a dream literally means imaginary events while sleeping.  Our politicians are forgetting the dogmatic saying that goes 'action speaks louder than...

THE CHANGE EXPECTED IN REVERSE: GEN Z'S FADING STRENGTH

Photo Courtesy   Waking up to find the sun rising from the West and not East at dawn is enough to signal a whirl of change in the cosmological history. As a product of imagination it can be, who knew Gen Z would emerge as with a wave of change in a sundry of generations unexpectedly.  With this wave, the political sphere in every country worldwide is experiencing an overhaul.  Recently, protests have marred different countries with calls for change.  Bangladesh, Nepal, Morocco, Madagascar, Kenya are some of the countries that have at least tasted the pinch of the GenZ protests, while some of the protests have resulted in a change in the political sphere of the affected countries others have left less impact with mission and vision unreached due to fanciful impulse.  Generation Z, globally have not only expressed their anger through anger through protests and demonstrations, but also in politics where some of the African countries like Seychelles and...

NOT-NOW: HAVE SOME HUMANITY

photo courtesy (unknown) A person cannot retract a message that has reached a mass audience invariant of where it was said. One of the characteristics of communication is that you cannot uncommunicate.  A silent person remains wise until he utters a word. His Excellency Mutahi Kahiga might exemplify this phrase considering his tracenda during his speech at a funeral in Kiambu county, where he was addressing them in the local dialect.  Mr. Kahiga, seems to be deficient in emotions especially concerning the latest tragedy that befell the country when he cast aspersions on Raila Odinga's demise.  Raila Odinga, without doubt was akin to mumbo-jumbo within the luo community yet to his capacity during his lifetime did he not only benefit the Luo but became a national figure and perhaps a trademark in Kenya's politics.  In the history of human life, man is mortal and from soil we come, to soil shall we return. Regardless of the circumstances, man is...
