WORLD YOUTHS SKILLS DAY

The world is marking Youth Skills Day.
The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2023 is “Skilling teachers, trainers and youth for a transformative future”.
Globally there is an estimation of 1.2 billion youths in the age bracket of 18-24 years, even though the age bracket for the youth is not universal and is subject to change according to each and every country this is according to UNESCO.
Youths are special groups globally and therefore demands a lot of care while being handled.
From my point of view, these persons deserve the special handling since at this stage is where they are maturing from their childhood and from this they are deemed to make decisions that may impact their lives in future negatively or positively, and the moment they mess up as early as such then the next generation after them is also destined to be in ruins.
The effort to make the future bright for these youths, therefore lies in the hand of the skills provider.
Reflecting on the theme “Skilling teachers, trainers and youth for a transformative future”. We focus now on the skilling teachers, those who see that youths do not mess up in their lives, they mandate and sacrifice their time to give a better skillful upbringing among the youths and their efforts cannot be ignored.
Without these trainers and teachers then we cannot brag of how our brighter future is.

In Africa and Kenya precisely, the Government is tirelessly working to completely usher in competency based curriculum alias CBC, the education system that is skill based and not knowledge based as compared to the one being phased out 8-4-4 education system.
This type of education system is aiming to equip learners with skillful knowledge. At the tertiary levels, the Government is now plunging into it and giving much priority to the tertiary levels, as an indication of effort, there are Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions.
As of 2021, there was 2,396 TVET institutions and increase when compared to the numerical value that was 753 TVETs as of 2013 when it was first established.
The TVET institutions refers to all forms and levels of education and training which provide knowledge and skills related to occupation in various sectors of economic and social life through formal, informal and non informal learning methods in both school based and work based learning context. How golden idea it is.
Apart from the increased number of the institutions, in order to make their system running in providing knowledge and skills, the Government pumps in funds and their slot is catered for equally as higher education levels that is Universities.
The youths are not deterred from joining these institutions and indeed any grade is permissible.
The Kenyan system is on the right track only when the ideas are not wiped out like dust of the desert.
Just as Country Kenya who have good policies in place, other African countries and world at large have a similar vision towards youth. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are out globally and youths are the targeted groups all over, but sadly, fewer youths are conversant with the programmes, they are unaware of what the world have for them.
Some trainers, teachers and the youths as well passes through lots of tribulation.
In third world countries majorly, they have nothing to enjoy or to feel happy about. They pass through a lot of challenges such as floods, famine and drought, political instabilities, civil wars, terror attacks among other life-threatening calamities are some of the hindrances to the success of skill provision.
The lamentation is; when will all these stop and peace to prevail.
Africa is not haven as someone may allude, they share problems, she widely open eyes for the lending hands, similar to youths inside the beautiful Africa Continent.
A call to solution is what the request is, solution that will make the skills be imparted without any barrier.
The trainers and teachers offering these skills should be empowered in order for them to deliver what is meant to the youths without any tarry, so that they be motivated through them the youths should not get antiquated and inadequate skills for they are our future, through youths stare at the mirror and foresee transformed future, a transformed globe.
Transformation of the globe is not my happiness because sometimes a section might see the sunshine before the other but the question is; will the first side be there to help the other. The Swahili people said _utengano ni dhaifu and umoja ni nguvu,_ literally meaning there is strength in unity and weakness in division. This is the time we say tuandamane bega kwa bega until the goal is achieved.

Giving youths the trust is good, but giving the skill wholeheartedly is the best. Let everyone not be a grappler of success but let success avail itself to you.
" The planet does not need more successful people. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kind," Dalai Lama.

Peacemaking, Healing, restoration, storytelling and lovers of all kind will all come when the skills are availed.
This is world Youths Skills Day.
Happy World Youths Skills Day.

SINGAPORE AND KENYA: DAY AND NIGHT

Kenya got its independence 1963 from the British colony, while Singapore got it two years in the month of August 9, 1965 from Malaysia after they had intense political differences which resulted to racial riots. Standing on the mirror line reflecting on the two countries between Kenya and Singapore, Kenya is extremely behind Singapore in terms of development.  Singapore hastily rose from third world country to first world country while Kenya still maintained the third world class.  Recently, Kenya's President Dr. William Ruto, is full of comparison statements: between Kenya and Singapore. Surprisingly, the phrase of boosting Kenya's world class has taken a beautiful twist where every politician is dreaming of Kenya to be futuristically the same level as Singapore. Pausing a bit, what's a dream? pondering on this; a dream literally means imaginary events while sleeping.  Our politicians are forgetting the dogmatic saying that goes 'action speaks louder than...

THE CHANGE EXPECTED IN REVERSE: GEN Z'S FADING STRENGTH

Photo Courtesy   Waking up to find the sun rising from the West and not East at dawn is enough to signal a whirl of change in the cosmological history. As a product of imagination it can be, who knew Gen Z would emerge as with a wave of change in a sundry of generations unexpectedly.  With this wave, the political sphere in every country worldwide is experiencing an overhaul.  Recently, protests have marred different countries with calls for change.  Bangladesh, Nepal, Morocco, Madagascar, Kenya are some of the countries that have at least tasted the pinch of the GenZ protests, while some of the protests have resulted in a change in the political sphere of the affected countries others have left less impact with mission and vision unreached due to fanciful impulse.  Generation Z, globally have not only expressed their anger through anger through protests and demonstrations, but also in politics where some of the African countries like Seychelles and...

NOT-NOW: HAVE SOME HUMANITY

photo courtesy (unknown) A person cannot retract a message that has reached a mass audience invariant of where it was said. One of the characteristics of communication is that you cannot uncommunicate.  A silent person remains wise until he utters a word. His Excellency Mutahi Kahiga might exemplify this phrase considering his tracenda during his speech at a funeral in Kiambu county, where he was addressing them in the local dialect.  Mr. Kahiga, seems to be deficient in emotions especially concerning the latest tragedy that befell the country when he cast aspersions on Raila Odinga's demise.  Raila Odinga, without doubt was akin to mumbo-jumbo within the luo community yet to his capacity during his lifetime did he not only benefit the Luo but became a national figure and perhaps a trademark in Kenya's politics.  In the history of human life, man is mortal and from soil we come, to soil shall we return. Regardless of the circumstances, man is...
