SINKING DREAM- SHIP OF BRIAN NJAGI
For the love of educationBy Glen Don.
Everybody goes to school to meet a goal.
When the goal is not met by the learner at any level, then he or she finds a better alternative, and in Kenya, the education system situationally places you in another cohort you belong to. That is through Kenya University and College Central Placement Services (KUCCPS)
Like you cannot dream of becoming a doctor then when you fail and are offered Public Health as an alternative, you complete then automatically become a doctor. This is the weird world and Kenya is part of this world.
My friend *Amata while we were in Secondary School desired to be a Lawyer, he could do anything just to make sure he was not locked out of University for Law studies. Despite all his efforts, he failed and never merited going for law instead he was given Accountancy. He had no other option but to bow down to the call of accountancy instead of law because he never met the standard for admission in Law school.
During my years of study at the Secondary school level, I floundered but what I knew was that I would become a doctor until I developed an interest in writing stories that later landed me in journalism, but it would be unethical if I run into practicing health care job with no skill and basing my argument on the talent and dream course.
Brian Njagi's case is of no difference.
Criminologist finishes their studies then masquerade as an Advocate and practice in court. When forty days of thief tickled the dot, he came out and tried to justify his course by circumlocuting just to evade the reality and public shame. Citing lack of job, pursuant to dream course, having talent, and claiming to have won 26 cases that are unverifiable and cannot be substantiated.
Brian thinks that everything works his way and must fit his demands.
When he had passion in studying law, why did he became artful dodger and chose to be an Advocate than following the bureaucratic processes and be allowed to practice his passion. Talent, something taught in school is not talent, talent is innate and cannot less be acquired through formal learning, he could reason like that only if there existed intellectual talent, that one could have made even Aristotle the best lawyer but he just remained to graded as the philosopher.
Perhaps, he can validly reason that for the lack of jobs, he used his witful means to go for Advocate. This brings an issue of big fish who approved and allowed Njagi to practice elusive advocacy role.
Thexplainsain how crooked some of Kenyan organ systems are. Why did he not go and practice a job related to the one he did? I still persist of 'big fish.'
There is no way, one can do something wrong and still come out to defend the course.
If it was a talent and dream course, then most of youths could have gone to different direction for what they loved. But because they cannot control , the chose to remain where they are.
If it lack of jobs, then most of Kenyan-youth could have taken Njagi's direction and delivery in any sector would have been nil.
Brian has just put himself on guillotine then may later blame the system for not favoured yet he knows very well his mischievous acts.
In conclusion, Brian's case has proved some of the leaders we have within the system. Like how on earth can you support aberrant pledging support to the victim. COTU Secretary - General Francis Atwoli and Mike Sonko coming out to defend and pledging to support Brian and make him to go to Law School, thanks to Law Society of Kenya's regulations that may make Brian not to step in Kenya School of Law. Titular twaddle by these leaders should not cow any leaders and this was the least expected of them though they have taken side. Trade union leader coming out broad light to defend something wrong. How about youths fighting for their lives but need just that capital to establish an enterprise. So sad.
Let us all maintain our own lane. No job is superior than the other and as always short ways are always dangerous.
For the love of education.
