The fact is that no media airs foreign contents all through their programs.
Beyond doubt is that even with the wake of ethnical promotion, various media houses who have branches at grassroot level gives airtime to local media contents, Ramogi FM for the Luos have Nyar Kochia as the best program, there is Lolwe FM having the Chief. Other local television channels are not left behind. Even at the national level, KBC, the national broadcaster usually have Africa Cinema at 10.pm Saturdays, contents full of Kenyan or Eastern African contents.
In a nutshell, no media is embracing foreign but instead they opt for diversity.
The Government could have come with better strategy of regulating contents from both quotas than taxation. What would be wrong by saying that policy of 60/40 or 70/30 where the foreign contents take 30 or 40 while the domestic contents take 70 or 60 as the larger percentage in media houses.
Taxation is still not the best solution.
In promotion of domestic trade, there is policy of Buy Kenya, Build Kenya. This same policy can be implemented. By setting up more film industries, improving fields that may promote talent growth, then the regulation starts on social media platforms as it flow down. In China TikTok operates freely but United States does not give it full access. ChatGpt have no license in Italy but here in Kenya it does.
What if freedom of access of information is limited for contents from Kenya in as far entertainment is concerned?
Kenya always desire to be at good pictures with other foreign countries. In not more than a year ago, one of the Egyptian confessed that Kenyans are the one that keeps his music afloat, Nigerian singer also once said that as well Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist too confessed, leave alone Congolese Rhumba musicians coming to shoot and live to stay in Kenya. The point is diversity and universality.
One time Luo Rhumba Kingpin, the late Musa Juma performed in United States in his Album Lake Victoria, the Sauti Sol group also once went to England to perform, lastly one of the Kenyan content creators went to Australia and performed.
What is the essence of embracing diversity if we doesn't want to appreciate others.
One create contents for audience. Audience are heterogeneous and are globally accepted.
Allowing foreign contents inside the country cause no harm.
The tax is not still the solution to embrace local contents. The matter lies with the Government to establish better facilities to boost film industry.
